Damaged or Loose Bricks (Spalling)
Bricks that are flaking, crumbling, or falling off (a condition known as spalling) signal water damage. Left unrepaired, spalling can lead to widespread failure of the chimney’s structure.

Chimney Crown or Cap Issues

Why it matters in winter: Water entering through the top of the chimney can freeze and damage the flue or interior liner, reducing efficiency and increasing fire risk.
